Walking Golden, CO
A photo essay exploring old buildings, western heritage, and the company town
If, like me, you are a sucker for old buildings (preferably brick) and western towns (preferably rowdy), Golden, CO may be for you.
Buildings with varied facades, building materials, and heights make the place feel soulful and not stale.
And show buildings with good bones can be repurposed for years to come
Beginning as a mining town, the city hasn’t forgotten its origins at the watering holes.
And some enterprising locals are pedaling rocks to unsuspecting tourists.
Food halls are all the rage these days, but unfortunately they don’t all make it.
But the Golden Mill did, and it’s one of the best in the area.
Clear creek runs right through town, and its supplies water to the city’s main employer of 151 years… Coors Brewing.
Murals and sculptures support the western heritage, as the city attempts to hold on to its colorful past while growing with the times.
